First Aid Policy- TJ Sports

1. First Aid Training: All coaches and staff members will receive

appropriate first aid training to handle common sports-related injuries

and emergencies. This training should be updated regularly to stay current with best

practices.

2. First Aid Kits: Each coach will have an easily accessible and well-stocked first aid kit.

These kits should contain essential items such as bandages, antiseptic wipes, adhesive tape,

ice packs, gloves, and a first aid manual.

3. Emergency Action Plan: In the case of a serious injury or medical emergency, contact the

emergency services, notify parents or guardians immediately, and take appropriate action

based on the scenario. All coaches will have a printed register with emergency contact

details of parents/ guardians.

4. Medical Information: Coaches should collect relevant medical information from

participants before any involvement in sports, including any pre-existing conditions,

allergies, or medications. This information should be kept confidential and easily accessible

in case of an emergency.

5. Communication: Coaches should communicate the first aid policy and procedures to

participants, parents, and staff members/ schools. This includes providing information on

how to report injuries, who to contact in case of an emergency, and any specific guidelines

for managing injuries during training or competitions.

6. Documentation: It is important to maintain accurate records of any injuries or incidents

that occur during sports activities. This includes recording the details of the injury, the

treatment provided, and any follow-up actions taken. This will be done by filling out a form

held in the coaches folder, and then passing this on to parents and the school if necessary.

7. Administration: Following First Aid training, coaches will administer first aid as

appropriate. The use of cleaning/antiseptic wipes to clean any wounds, plasters only when

necessary, and ice packs for any form of head bump/ injury.
